Ähtäri Zoo to reopen with new structure and investor backing

Ähtäri Zoo will resume operations under a restructured two-operator model following its closure in October 2025. The plan was announced on 29 January at a local investor meeting in Ähtäri. The model divides responsibilities between two separate entities. Vieraile ja Välität ry, an association of former zoo employees that acquired the animals and facilities after bankruptcy, will remain in charge of animal care, species protection, and educational services. A newly established company, MesiZoo Oy, will oversee financial management, marketing, and business development.
